GUIDELINES FOR YOUR VISIT & INFORMATION ABOUT THE CENTRE

South Riverdale-Child Parent Centre (SRCPC) is a charitable community-based organization supported by government funding, and community fundraising. We are an EarlyON Child and Family Centre.

Mission

Our mission is to nurture and support the healthy development of young children, parents, and caregivers as individuals, family members and community participants. We serve children from birth to 6 years and their parents and caregivers.

Services

Drop-in

The drop-in is our core program. Program runs Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00am-1:30pm. The Thursday program is for babies (ages 0-12 months). Tuesday is our only afternoon program running from 3:30pm-5:30pm. Saturday program runs from September- April from 9:30am-12:30pm. 

Workshops, Outings, and Committee Meetings

Wednesdays are for free workshops, outings, and committee meetings. Prior sign-up is required. Please email info@srcpc.org or visit the drop-in to sign-up. Typically, sign-up lists are posted 3 weeks ahead of the workshop/outing/meeting date. You will find the schedule for upcoming workshops in our newsletter and on our website www.srcpc.org. 

Virtual Services 

We are continuing virtual programming, that includes Instagram circle time, and Zoom Workshops. You will find the monthly schedule on our website and events posted on our social media:

Other Services

Staff are available to offer informal counselling and referrals, information, and advocacy to assist you if you are experiencing difficulties impacting your well-being and development.

Staff are continuing to meet with families for Ages and Stages Questionnaire Developmental Screenings - if you are concerned about an area in your child's development or want to learn more, please reach out to Nina, Sarah or Robin and we can book a date to complete the screening. 

Toy Library and Parenting Library

You can borrow developmentally-appropriate toys from our library to enhance your child’s play at home. You are welcome to borrow English and French books, or a CPR training kit from our Parenting Library. 

Clothing Exchange

Take clothing that you need for your child and/or add clothing that your child has outgrown that is still in good condition!

These guidelines are in place to make all participants feel comfortable and safe.

COVID-19

As of April 4, 2022, in accordance with provincial directions, the SRCPC will resume full in person operations with no capacity limits and no COVID restrictions. SRCPC staff and participants may still choose to wear masks if they wish. SRCPC supports everyone’s individual choice. The safety of all participants remains SRCPC’s priority. SRCPC requests that all participants - children and adults - stay home if they do not feel well. 

SRCPC’S RULES OF CONDUCT 

  • SRCPC will not tolerate discrimination, harassment, disruptive behaviour and/or illegal conduct from participants and/or staff. The rules set out below are intended to discourage and hopefully prevent such conduct and to ensure the dignity and safety of participants and SRCPC staff. 

  • Any behaviour that does not support a welcoming environment and/or violates the Rules of Conduct may result in consequences up to and including exclusion from the SRCPC on the basis of the Ontario Trespass to Property Act. The centre’s rules of conduct set out below work in tandem with and should be read in conjunction with the SRCPC Rules of Conduct Violation Policy. 

  • Please feel free to ask SRCPC staff if you would like to see a copy of the SRCPC’s Rules of Conduct Violation Policy. 

The SRCPC’s Rules of Conduct are: 

  1.  Discriminatory language or conduct based on a person’s age, ancestry, colour, race, citizenship, ethnic origin, place of origin, creed, disability, family status, marital status, gender identity, gender expression, sex (including pregnancy and breastfeeding) and sexual orientation is not allowed. 

  2. Violent, threatening, abusive or harassing language or conduct of any kind is not allowed. 

  3. Disruptive and/or illegal behaviour or conduct of any kind is not allowed. 

  4. Hitting and/or shouting at and/or yelling at children (one’s own or someone else’s) is not allowed. 

  5. Children must be supervised by their caregiver/parent at all times. 

  6. Taking photos and/or videos of any child(ren) other than your own is not allowed without the other child(ren)’s parent or caregiver’s express permission. 

Cell Phone Use 

Please limit your cell phone use to 2 minutes while in the program. If you need to make an urgent call or text, please ask another adult to be with your child. 

Toys

The children are free to play with the toys as they choose (aside from weapon play). Toy Wash Bins will be placed around the program space. When your child is finished with a toy please drop the toy into the bin for cleaning.

  • In the backyard, to keep your child safe and the backyard tidy,

    • Keep sand in the sandbox. 

    • No playing on the ramp. 

    • No ride-on vehicles on the dirt hill.

  • Please leave your outdoor shoes at the door. We play in socks, indoor shoes, or bare feet inside to keep the floor clean for the babies.

Snacks and Washrooms 

The Centre will offer a small snack during the program, and you are able to bring food/snacks and water from home.  

Allergy Alert: Please do not bring or consume any products that contain nuts. If your child is allergic to any food products or you are watching for an allergy, please make staff aware. 

Washrooms are located in the Ralph Thornton Community Centre basement; you can find the washroom key hanging next to the purple door. 

Illness

Please stay home if you or your child has:

  • diarrhea,

  • a rash that may be contagious (Please only come to the drop-in if your rash has been diagnosed as NOT contagious),

  • pink eye or itchy, oozing, swollen eyes,

  • impetigo, ringworm, or pinworm,

  • a severe cold with fever, runny nose, sneezing, and/or a bad cough, and/or,

  • been vomiting (spit-up excluded)

  • a fever

    • Armpit temperature 37.2°C  (99° F) or higher for children younger than 2 year

    • Ear temperature 37.5°C  (99.5°F) or higher, or armpit temperature 37.2°C (99° F) or higher for children 2 years or older


Come back to the drop-in after you or your child has been symptom-free for 24-hours. (For a fever, symptom-free without Tylenol.)

  • If you hear a fire alarm, follow staff instructions. Our first exit is through the backyard. Our alternate exit is through the side door that leads to the SRCPC washroom. If you are in the SRCPC washroom, in the Toy Library, or on the 2nd or 3rd floor, exit through the side door and meet the group on Saulter Street.
